What Happened to America’s Greatness? The Decline and Radical Left’s War on Common Sense
My first two opinion pieces for Think American focused on law enforcement issues, drawn from my personal experience as a police officer. This one, however, comes from a broader perspective—as a concerned citizen of the United States, addressing the issues that impact us all.
Let me start by asking this question; what is wrong with the words Make America Great Again? Every citizen, every legal resident, and even those not here legally who hope to live the American Dream should want to see America become as strong and prosperous as she ever was, right? If we are, then everyone does better. But it seems that these words have become a rallying cry for those who wish to oppose anything that has to do with America going back to its former glory and a target for the radical left against the one man and his supporters who are trying to accomplish just that.
Like some Americans—and sadly not enough—I try to pay attention to what’s going on and watch the absolute chaos (a catchphrase used by the Left) that has befallen our country in recent years. When did all of this start to take place? I’ll take you back to January of 2009 when we inaugurated our first Socialist president, and then the push to the left began and has gained momentum and numbers ever since. I have a beef with this because by uttering just a few words in 2014, the first volley in the war on law enforcement was fired, and that made us the enemy. That’s for another time, but it was this new push toward socialist ideologies that opened the doors for the radical thinking and behavior we now have to contend with.
Where this insanity took off was when a guy named Trump announced his run for president in 2015, and it has been downhill ever since. When he pulled off the win, the deep-state machine went into overdrive and he was opposed at every turn, not just by Democrats, but Republicans as well because he was going disrupt the status quo and that threatened the Washington establishment.
Since that time and even more now, we have been witnessing a mindset that just makes you say WTF is going on with us? We’ve had hundreds of riots beginning in 2020 that were called peaceful demonstrations, police stations burned down, parts of cities taken over (not since the Civil War), weaponization of our laws, Supreme Court justices threatened in their homes, members of Congress attacked and harassed, as encouraged by other members of Congress, WHAT? We have had a completely open southern border where millions of immigrants have come in, illegally, or processed and released into our country with the equivalent of an NYPD Desk Appearance Ticket, or in Florida a Promise to Appear for a court hearing sometime later. Promise? Sure.
Drugs pouring in through both borders and killing hundreds of thousands of our citizens, but let me not just blame the cartels and China and other countries, let me call out our own people who continue to want the drugs. It’s Supply & Demand folks, plain and simple. If we didn’t want it there wouldn’t be a market for it, so we have to take some of the responsibility on this one.
Here is one that just plays with the common sense that most of us have, left & right, it is men and boys playing in women’s and girls’ sports. Can someone please explain to me how this is even an 80/20 issue as the news like to term it? This shouldn’t be an issue at all, but the Left, and here—let’s hit the nail where it belongs—Democrat politicians. Most members of Congress and 100% of the Democrat senators voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025. Can you explain this one? Why wouldn’t you want to vote for this? Don’t many of the Representatives have daughters who play sports? How do explain to your own daughter that you voted against protecting her from playing against biological males? This is not a slight against trans-individuals, this is about physical strength and fairness.
In 2017 in preparation for the World Cup, the US Women’s National Soccer Team played a Dallas Under-15 boys team and lost 5-2. These are adult women who physically could not compete with teenage boys. But they shouldn’t feel embarrassed because it’s apples & oranges and biology. Women (in general) simply can’t compete against men. We’re not made that way. But why do the Democrats choose to die one of their many deaths on this hill? I don’t understand it.
Our college and university campuses have become a hotbed for the most vile hatred we’ve seen in generations. Jewish students can’t attend class for fear of violence and the support for the terrorist group Hamas which has become inseparable from stating you support Palestinians when it shouldn’t, has blurred the lines of what’s right and just and what’s wrong. By the way, if it wasn’t for Republicans, Israel wouldn’t exist. The Democrats seem to have a deep hatred, at least they despise Jews, and the kicker, and what is so shameful, is that many members are Jewish themselves. Explain that one too.
Also and by the way, I wish that the media pundits on both sides would stop referring to the party as the Democratic Party and call them what they are, just the Democrat Party. There is nothing Democratic about this incarnation of the party. Ever disagree with one? Many don’t allow your freedom of opinion and attack you for it. These folks are not the party of FDR, Truman, JFK, Johnson, Carter, and even Clinton. They’ve gone so far off the rails that Carter must be spinning in his grave.
The Trumpster is trying to make us better than we’ve been, and the biggest part of that is improving our economy. First, everyone on either side over the years has said that the government is corrupt and wastes untold billions of our tax dollars and has said, “Someone ought to do something about that,” both sides. Now that someone is and Musk and his Whiz-Kids are doing just that and finding the “waste, fraud & abuse,” (catch-phrase for the Right) people are upset with it! You can’t have it both ways folks. We either find it, fix it, or we continue to look the other way and piss away our money. Now, people have taken to destroying/vandalizing Tesla dealers and privately owned cars because they hate Musk. The idiocy just seems to get worse. If I personally catch someone doing this, well, they will be neatly gift-wrapped for the police. Did you know that arson is a forcible felony and can carry a life sentence? Word to the unwise.
The other side of fixing our economy are the tariffs that President Trump is imposing on almost ALL countries so that we can negotiate better trade terms for an even playing field. Many are upset with this too, why? Don’t you want fair trade for the US? Let me put it this way; you and I will play the Slap Game. This is where we both get to slap each other’s face and see who is left standing. But, I get to slap you 5 times and you only get to slap me once. Fair? Of course not, but that’s how our trade has been working. It has to be even. I’m tired of getting ripped off by our allies, let alone our adversaries.
Members of Congress rallying to support illegal-immigrant gang members. DO I have to say more about this one? Ok, I will. What about the innocent Americans killed by these animals, but Democrats are circling their wagons around them (running for President by the way), not the victims. I have a colleague Mario, who as we say in police jargon, “It was his turn in the Jack Pot.” He confronted a man who was trying to set a Shell gas station on fire. You read right. Mario was attacked and almost killed when he was
stabbed 12 times with a screwdriver by this illegal migrant who, after committing serious felonies in California, really, was released and made his way to Miami and attacked my friend. Fortunately, even though he was gravely wounded, he prevailed through sheer determination, the will to survive and his police training, and killed this dirt-bag as he calls him, in self-defense. What about that?
We are in opposite times, folks. Nothing makes sense, and we’ve lost our way. Our enemies are waiting for us to completely implode and many of our friends don’t like us much either and do not want us to succeed because that hurts their bottom line. We need to find our footing once again and become the sole economic and military, industry leading, tech innovation, healthy, education, and bastion of liberty and freedom super-power that we once were. American Exceptionalism isn’t just a snappy catch-phrase, it is the gold standard of humanity. Wake up America!
